About
The Situation
My wife Angela, mom to our five kids, has been fighting bone cancer since
2006, and in June, 2009 she had her right leg amputated at the hip due to a recurrent tumor. It’s been a tough few years. You can read the whole story on Angela’s CarePages website. (Note that you need to become a member of CarePages in order to access that site because of the personal nature of the updates.)
The Goal
This web site, made possible by our friends, is dedicated to helping us raise funds towards a home with Universal Design (for handicap accessibility), and towards mobility equipment. The goal is a safe and comfortable place for Angela to recover and live, and we deeply appreciate any support you’re able to offer.
The House – Some Background
At this point in Angela’s battle we need to be closer to family. So Angela and I, and the two of our five kids still at home, are moving to a spot five houses from Angela’s sister Alexandra, her husband Bobby, and their kids. Angela is hugely comforted by the fact that our nine year old will grow up near Alexandra, who is like a second mom to her.
We’ve actually been trying for a couple of years to move closer to Alexandra and Bobby, but couldn’t find the right home. This spring we found the little Cape five houses away and were going to make an offer, when suddenly Angela’s cancer recurrence was diagnosed. Our move became urgent, but the house was terribly suited to Angela’s new life with one leg (you can see why in the video on our home page). In the end we decided that the best use of our resources (especially time) was to push forward, and put an accessible new house on this ideal spot. So here we go….
